What is a theme? A theme controls the overall look and feel of a web site/application such as Course Site. It is the interaction layer often referred to as the user interface. A theme can make a massive difference regarding the intuitiveness and efficiency of navigating the system. For several years now, Course Site has relied on the Classic theme as the default theme. The Classic theme is no longer being supported and will be completely removed from Moodle at the end of 2022. On Monday, May 23, 2022, the newer Boost theme will become the default theme. The Boost theme has been available in Course Site for several years now, and many are already using it. It provides a much more modern look, offering a significantly cleaner and more accessible interface. The Classic theme will be completely removed from Moodle in January 2023.

We strongly recommend you switch your preferred theme to Boost and start familiarizing yourself with it this semester. It’s typical if it takes some time getting used to the new theme. Below are the steps to switch your theme to Boost.

Step-by-step guide to setting your theme to Boost in Course Site

Log in to Course Site, then locate the user menu at the top-right corner of the screen. Click anywhere on your name, icon, or carrot to reveal the menu.

From the user menu that appears, click Preferences.

This will bring you to your Preferences page. Under the User account fieldset, select Edit profile.

Scroll down until you see the Preferred theme setting. Click to expand the options menu and select Boost.

Scroll down and click the Update profile button to save your changes.

Now when you visit your dashboard and other courses/pages around the system, you will be able to experience a much more modern and clean interface.
